Medieval tour: La Ribera and "El Born"
If you like history and old buildings, this is your walking tour!
By the 13th century, Barcelona needed to expand beyond its city walls and a separate borough was created, which soon became the district where merchants and the wealthiest Barcelona families came to live. But before entering this maze of narrow streets where trademen, artisans and guilds once mingled together, we will start visiting the outside of the modernist Palace of Music. After, we will head towards the beautiful Gothic church Santa Maria del Mar, next to what once was the sea. We will finish in what had been a military citadel built by the War of the Spanish Succession, now a beautiful park: La Ciutadella, where the 1888 World Fair was held. As you explore the maze of narrow streets plenty of history, you’ll discover today neighbourhood of design, leisure and fashion.
The suggested tour is a pleasant and interesting walk with time for some tapas or a visit to some art galleries or fashion shops. We play by ear!
